One of our learners Jonathon Perry from Mencap in Ceredigion was put in for a City and Guilds Medals For Excellence by his assessor Sara and he has won a Tallow Chandlers Award of Excellence. Both he and Sara have been invited to a presentation dinner in London where he will receive a gold medal.
This is what Sara has to say about him.
Jonathon is new into care work after being a builder previously. He has done some outstanding work with clients supporting them to communicate through music.
Jonathan has used music therapy in his approaches to supporting individuals with specific communication needs and as stated before he has developed the service users existing skills and self confidence by using these techniques. Jonathan has not stopped there, he has started involving groups of service users with a particular interest in music to get together and they are now about to form a band.
Jonathan and an individual have planned, together, using the formats developed by Jonathan, his hopes and dreams for his future, which was to work as a DJ, Jonathan and the service user over a period of time have asked the DJ at the ‘Gateway’ disco if he could introduce a song at the disco, then went on to play one, then two, then a slot and he is now in the process of creating his on set list for his own disco, where he will be the only DJ.
Jonathan is a fantastic support worker who has a genuine interest in the well-being of the service users he supports, he is enthusiastic and innovative in his approaches to support work and has applied this to his qualification. Jonathan has embraced his NVQ level 3 in health and social care, learning everything he needs to know to make him a better support worker and I believe this has been demonstrated in his recent work with individuals as mentioned above. Who knows what is next for Jonathan Perry, but whatever it is, I bet it will be fantastic!
A huge well done to Sara and Jonathon.
