Qualification and Credit Framework

The QCF will replace the existing framework for vocational qualifications (NQF) in January 2011.

The new qualification framework has received ministerial approval in Wales, Northern Ireland and England and is part of the Vocational Qualification Reform Programme (VQRP).

NVQs currently sit on the NQF. Learners will still be able to register on NVQ programmes untill December 2010, and they will still be recognised as valid qualifications within the social care sector.

The replacement credit based qualifications will be equivalent in size and level to current NVQs. NOS will be used as the basis of the qualifications they will also incorporate other authoritative sources e.g Code of Practice.

These credit based qualifications will offer flexibility to learners and employers that provide opportunities to build appropriate skills and knowledge.
